‘Nourishing our Community’ reception follows Thursday’s urban-garden lecture

We posted previously here regarding Thursday’s lecture by scholar and author Jeffrey Hou, who will speak at 4 p.m. in the Christie Theatre on his book Greening Cities, Growing Communities: Learning from Seattle’s Urban Community Gardens.

We should also highlight the reception planned for 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Room Phoenix C of the Union. The event, Nourishing our Community, is open to UW-Green Bay students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the general public. Refreshments will be served. The reception will feature and recognize people and organizations from Northeast Wisconsin who are involved in community gardens, sustainable agriculture, resilient local food systems and initiatives to improve our community’s health, well being and access to healthy foods.

Reception is networking opportunity

Organizers of the 4 p.m. guest lecture and 5:30 p.m. reception describe the events this Thursday (Oct. 14) as a great networking opportunity. The University’s Center for Food in Community and Culture says representative from the following organizations will be at the reception: Green Bay Botanical Garden, Sustainable Green Bay Task Force Subcommittee for Food and Health, NWTC Organic Gardening Program, New Leaf Market, Twin Elm Gardens, Food and Hunger Network, Brown County Extension Community Garden Program, the UW-Green Bay student group SLO Food Alliance, Chilton Public Schools Farm to School, the Eastern Wisconsin Sustainable Farmers’ Network, NEW Food Shed, the Seymour Park Neighborhood Association, Glacierland and the Center for Food in Community and Culture.
