Foxconn deal expected to boost Northeast Wisconsin economy

Lawmakers and business leaders anticipate a plan to bring Foxconn Technology Group to southeast Wisconsin to have an enormous economic impact on Northeast Wisconsin and other regions across the state, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Gov. Walker said landing a manufacturer like Foxconn would not only mean thousands of jobs within the company but also would lead to the creation more than 20,000 additional jobs. “With the supply chain alone, you’re talking over $4 billion,” Walker said… Jeffrey Rahn, president of NWTC, and Gary Miller, chancellor of UW-Green Bay spoke about their partnerships with the Green Bay Area Public School District to start career planning early and how the prospect of Foxconn acts as a catalyst to improve the education system and get young minds interested in STEM fields. Miller said as UWGB develops a STEM Innovation Center on its campus, it would be reassuring to know there would be a growing need for engineering and manufacturing experts.
