Spring Sheepshead Review offers a menagerie in honor of a beloved professor
GREEN BAY, WI—As the students and faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay were finally getting into the swing of virtual classrooms, the English department suffered a heavy loss that sent everything spiraling.
Professor Sarah Schuetze’s January death came as a shock to the students and the faculty that knew her best. But despite the hardship of losing a beloved professor, the Sheepshead Review staff is dedicating its Spring 2021 issue in her honor.
“When we sat down to plan this Spring issue, we were bereft,” says English Co-Chair and Sheepshead Review advisor Rebecca Meacham. “But then our Editor-in-Chief hit on the perfect theme to honor Sarah’s top passion: animals.”
Editor-in-Chief August Wiegman set the tone for the semester with a Day One icebreaker activity where each student posted pictures of their pets.
“August’s compassionate leadership made space for our grief,” Meacham notes. “And what better way to honor an English professor than a book full of beautiful art and writing?”
Along with UW-Green Bay students, the Spring issue features beautifully heartbreaking, visually aesthetic, joyfully healing, and deeply meaningful pieces from all over world, many of which will be read live at the issue’s launch on May 3, 2021 at 1 p.m. via Zoom.
“I’m extremely excited to share the work of our talented contributors,” Weigman says. “As with every spring, this semester we hosted the Rising Phoenix contest for UW-Green Bay students, and the pieces that won are phenomenal.”
