Sturgeon Bay moves ahead with bid for estuary research visitor center
STURGEON BAY – An ad hoc committee is working to put together a bid for the city to become home to a national water and nature research center.It’s part of a state effort to designate Wisconsin’s coastline on the bay of Green Bay and a portion of the upper Fox River, perhaps including some of the bay waters, as a National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR).Under the direction of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a NERR is a coastal site designated to protect and study estuary systems, the ecosystems where rivers and lakes, seas or oceans come together
…The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is leading the state’s effort to designate a NERR on the bay.
