UW-Green Bay alumni, Logan Johnsen (’21), Rosalyn Stoa (’20) and Prof. Jana Fogaça (Psychology) published their article “To be or not to be paid? The motivational effects of scholarship removal on Division I NCAA swimmers” in International Journal of Sport Psychology. In this study, the researchers found removing scholarships to decrease intrinsic motivation. Additionally, respondents tended to cite a frustration of autonomy, competence, and/or relatedness when scholarship removal was threatened. Full text can be requested at this link. Johnsen is currently pursuing a doctorate of physical therapy at University of Kansas Medical Center. Stoa is at Colorado State University pursuing a Ph.D in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Prof. Fogaça is currently an assistant professor at California State University, Long Beach.
