If you were anywhere on campus at about 1 p.m. Monday, you probably heard a muffled boom-boom-boom that might have sounded like fireworks. If you were outside the Kress Events Center, you not only heard them, you saw them. A minute-long volley of fireworks greeted the Phoenix women’s basketball players as they returned to campus and stepped off the bus from the airport. The unique salute was arranged and funded by one of the team’s biggest fans and community supporters. Fireworks on a crisp, sunny afternoon? More smoke than color… but noisy, surprising and greatly appreciated.
