This message was sent to students living on the campus this year at UW-Green Bay:
A lot has changed this year because of COVID-19, including the methods the U.S. Census Bureau planned to count students living on college campuses. Due to current circumstances, most students across the nation have returned home and left their campus housing. The U.S. Census Bureau has indicated that they still want all students who normally would have lived on campus as of April 1, 2020 to be counted as such.
UW-Green Bay has been asked to provide the directory information, which includes name and permanent address, of all students living on campus before departing because of COVID-19. Information protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) will not be released. It is important for students to be counted at their campus address to give the U.S. Census Bureau an accurate picture of what a normal year is like as this will impact funding in those communities.
As the households you are now staying at fill out their Census data, they should not count you. If you have already been be counted, it is ok. The U.S. Census Bureau has tools to remove duplicate responses and prefers to have people counted and duplicates removed than to not have someone counted at all.
