UW-Green Bay to hold brass and flute recital

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay music program will present a brass and flute recital, Wednesday, April 20. The performance will include the Phoenix Brass Ensemble, Flute Ensemble and Saxophone Quartet, and a special appearance by the flute choir, Sounds of Silver.

The free recital will be at 7:30 p.m. in Fort Howard Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts and is open to the public.

The Phoenix Brass, under the direction of UW-Green Bay Prof. Adam Gaines, will perform the finale from Turandot by Giacomo Puccini, “Motet and Royal Fanfare” by Josquin des Prez, and “You Make Me Feel So Young” by Josef Myrow; and “La Virgen de la Macarena” conducted by UW-Green Bay Prof. Kevin Collins.

The Phoenix Brass includes: Dan Marbes, Greg Sauve, Brandon Wirth and Amanda Cornette, trumpet; Annette Eis and Jillian Patrick, horn; Michael Hogan, Kevin Collins and Bill Burroughs, trombone; Tim Kiefer, euphonium; and Gregg Fredrickson, tuba.

The Flute Ensemble, under the direction of UW-Green Bay lecturer Nancy Collins, will perform “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” by J. Brahms, “An Elizabethan Suite” arranged by Paul Morgan, “Three Latin American Dances” by Keith Amos, “Nuances” by Anne McGinty, “Sonata for Two Flutes” by Johann Christian Schultze, and “Flutes in the Garden” by Gary Schocker.

The Flute Ensemble includes: Alysha Brooks, Krista Jaeger, Kate Kornowski, Kailey Mucha, Rebecca Rasmussen and Zachary Yost.

The Saxophone Quartet, directed by UW-Green Bay Prof. John Salerno, will perform “Scherzo” by Hans Mielenz and “Sailor’s Hornpipe” by Henry Cowell.

The Saxophone Quartet includes: Sam Stranz, Julio Reyes, Kyle Hall and Cole Watkins.

The Sounds of Silver flute choir, comprised of adult flutists from the greater Green Bay area and hosted by UW-Green Bay, will perform “Masques” by Anne McGinty, “Quatuor” by Pierre Max Dubois, “Russian Sailor’s Dance” by Reinhold Gliere, “Gaelic Offering” by Catherine McMichael, and the theme from Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, arranged by John Salerno.

This is the thirty-second concert of the 2010-2011 season.
