Humanities catapult makes a splash
How about a little medieval history with that side of veggies? The Ancient and Medieval Humanities Club debuted its handmade trebuchet-style catapult at the Humanities Social, Friday afternoon (April 28, 2017) at Lambeau Cottage. After a few minor adjustments and on-site fortifications, onlookers enjoyed watching bio-degradable produce sail into the waters of Green Bay with a satisfying splash. All said, students deemed the project a success, acknowledging that were they to continue development, they would explore a longer throwing arm and perhaps a spring apparatus to improve launch distance. Stefan Hall (Humanities) is the club advisor and suggested the project last fall as a group project. Engineering students provided some early-project feedback. The Facilities Management folks offered some space in their shop for construction. The Club members raised money for the catapult build by selling origami dragons on campus. Allison Bolstad and Sigourney Vandeveer are club leaders.
Also honored at the Humanities Social were the following students who will be receiving scholarships:
Allison Loderbauer – Harold and Edna Bickford Endowed Scholarship
Anna Hoesley – Coryl Crandall Memorial Scholarship
Emily Ahrens – Thomas E. Daniels Memorial Scholarship
Brigitta Kaiser and Brianna Messner – Lise Lotte Gammeltoft Endowed Scholarship
