Video: Metropolis score offers unique opportunities for music and vocal students

One can appreciate the challenge to prepare music students to perform a world-premiere film score. When the music shifts from traditional sounds and lyrics, the stakes get even higher. It appears that Prof. Kevin Collins, who leads the Wind Ensemble and Studio Orchestra, and Randall Meder, who leads the UWGB Chorale, for next week’s Metropolis performance are up to the challenge, as are their students. The complete 2010 restoration of Metropolis will be screened, and the score written by Associate Prof. Michelle McQuade Dewhirst, performed live, one performance only, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28 in Cofrin Hall of the Weidner Center. The video captures a bit of the preparation it takes to pull this mega-performance off.
