Final tally on ‘Furniture Adoption Program’
Glenn Gray in Residence Life shares the following now that the two “furniture adoption” weekends are over and done:
“We were able to place approximately 2,100 (88%) of the 2,400 pieces we had available for adoption – about 800 beds, 800 dressers, and 500 desks. Out of the 2,100 pieces adopted, approximately 1,500 pieces (71%) went to students, staff and faculty; and about 600 pieces (29%) went to charitable organizations in the area. Only about 12% of the furniture we had available for adoption (approximately 300 desks) had to be taken to the landfill. We are very appreciative of the help our University community gave us in finding ways to reuse this furniture; and we were glad to be able to assist some of the charitable organizations in the area as well.”
