Allie LeClaire, former Notre Dame, Green Bay women’s basketball star, hired at Eastern Illinois
GREEN BAY – The next chapter in Allie LeClaire’s basketball career is about to begin.The former Green Bay Notre Dame and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay star guard has been hired as an assistant coach for the women’s team at Eastern Illinois University, an NCAA Division I school in Charleston.LeClaire isn’t the only one on the team with strong ties to UWGB.EIU is coached by Matt Bollant, who coached the Phoenix from 2007 to 2012 and led the program to unprecedented heights.UWGB went 148-19 during his five seasons, including 85-5 in Horizon League play. It made four trips to the NCAA tournament, including its only appearance in the Sweet 16 in 2011.LeClaire was a sophomore at Notre Dame when Bollant was hired by the University of Illinois in 2012. She was recruited by and played for Kevin Borseth during her time in college, but Bollant was aware of her talents before he left Green Bay and knew she was a future DI player.Now, the two will work together. LeClaire’s full-time role will be defined when she arrives in Illinois on June 8 and when summer workouts begin June 14. She likely will have responsibilities both on the court and with recruiting.LeClaire is quickly climbing up the coaching ranks.
