Helping teachers and support staff gain cultural competence spurs ‘Spanish for Educators’

In response to a need in the Marinette area community, UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus has created a course specifically for educators and support staff to gain cultural competence in Spanish. Designed for teachers and personnel who interact with Spanish-speaking students and their families, the six-week virtual course will provide familiarization with simple Spanish words for everyday things, including conversational phrases and sentences, expressions to use in the cafeteria and on the playground.

Participants will also learn words for enrolling new students and conversing in the classroom, especially talking about rules and expectations and basic vocabulary for academic subjects.

The course is currently open for enrollment, and the fee is affordable at $150.
