Former Green Bay men’s soccer player and current Vancouver Whitecaps player, Tosaint Ricketts, knows his playing days will have to end sometime in the future. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, Green Bay Athletics added the early era men’s soccer players to its “Top 50 Most Influential Leaders in Green Bay Athletics History” List. The early era, spanning from 1969-1980, saw the men’s soccer team rise to national prominence, playing a vital role alongside men’s basketball to help propel the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay into Division I status. The soccer program competed in the NAIA Area Championships three times, competed in the Division II post-season four teams, including two Final Four appearances and continue to hold records in multiple categories for the men’s soccer team. Green Bay Hall of Fame members from this era include Christian Akiwowo, Chuck Stark, Ivan Delbecchi, Horst Stemke, John Hummel, Mark Wehking, Nezih Hansanoglu, Rick Voightlander, Terry Powers and Zach Papanikola. Green Bay Athletics announces a new member of their “Top 50 Most Influential Leaders in Green Bay Athletics History” list every week during the 2019-2020 academic season to celebrate 50 years of Green Bay Athletics.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, the Green Bay women’s basketball team will be hosting an exhibition game against Michigan Tech at 7 p.m. at the Kress Center. This game is also the program’s inaugural Yooper Night, where tickets are $9.06 in honor of the Upper Peninsula’s 906 area code, pasta will be served at the concession stands and prizes will be given away throughout the night.
On Friday, Oct. 25, the women’s volleyball team hosts Cleveland State at 6 p.m. at the Kress Center.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, the swimming and diving team hosts Cleveland State at Noon. The women’s volleyball team plays host to Oakland at 4 p.m. at the Kress Center. The men’s soccer team plays at home against Detroit Mercy at 7 p.m. at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

The women’s volleyball team plays in its Alzheimer’s Awareness match at the Kress Center against Wright State at 6 p.m. This game is also available on ESPN+. On Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, the cross country team is competing at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois.
Saturday, Oct. 19 marks one of the biggest days for Green Bay Athletics of the year thus far, with a slate of five events on tap:
10 a.m., the men’s basketball team kicks off its 2019-2020 campaign with an intrasquad green vs. white scrimmage at the Kress Center.
1 p.m., the swimming and dive team competes at an All-Wisconsin Invite in Brown Deer, Wisconsin.
2 p.m., the women’s soccer team plays host to Oakland at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
4 p.m., the women’s volleyball team hosts Northern Kentucky at the Kress Center. This game is also available on ESPN 3.
6 p.m. men’s soccer team plays at Northern Kentucky. This game is also available on ESPN 3.
Green Bay Athletics teams had a very successful weekend. On Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, Green Bay women’s volleyball defeated Youngstown State 3-0, followed by a 3-2 victory over IUPUI on Sunday, Oct. 13. These two victories improved the team to 12-6 on the season with Wright State coming to Green Bay on Friday, Oct. 18. to play at 6 p.m. The game can also be viewed on ESPN+.
The women’s soccer team defeated Youngstown State 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 12, improving to 7-6-1 on the season. The team next plays Oakland at home on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m., which is also Senior Day.
The men’s soccer team played Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 12, winning 2-0. This win takes the team to 3-6-2 on the season, with the next game coming on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Northern Kentucky at 6 p.m. You can catch the game on ESPN 3.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, the Green Bay women’s volleyball team played at Cleveland State, losing a close match 3-2. The team plays next on Friday, Oct. 11 in Youngstown, Ohio against Youngstown State.
The men’s soccer team also played on Saturday at home against Cleveland State, winning 1-0. The team’s next game is on the road Tuesday, Oct. 8 against Marquette.
The women’s soccer team hosted Wright State on Sunday, Oct. 8, falling 1-0. Next, the team faces Youngstown State on Oct. 12 on the road.
The Phoenix men’s soccer team hosts Cleveland State on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at Aldo Santaga Stadium. There is also a pre-game tailgate beginning at 5:30 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Green Bay Athletics. In addition, at halftime, the inaugural 1969-1970 soccer team will be honored on the field. On Sunday, Oct. 6, the women’s soccer team hosts Wright State at 7 p.m at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The game can also be watched on ESPN+. The women’s volleyball team hosts IUPUI on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Kress Center. The game will also be streaming on ESPN+.
Here’s a weekend recap of Green Bay athletics: Women’s soccer lost to Horizon League opponent Cleveland State, 3-0 but holds onto a 6-4 record heading to Detroit on Saturday, Sept. 28. The team returns home on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. against Wright State. The women’s volleyball team played three matches this weekend, all in Milwaukee. On Friday, the team fell 3-0 to nationally ranked #8 Marquette. On Saturday, the team lost 3-0 to Northern Iowa before bouncing back and winning 3-0 against St. Louis. The Phoenix is 8-4 and heads to the University of Illinois-Chicago on Friday, Sept. 27 before returning home on Sunday, Sept. 29, where it is unbeaten this season. Men’s soccer lost to Oakland in Green Bay on Saturday, 3-0. The team is now 1-4-2 looking to bounce back this Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 against IUPUI in Indianapolis. The team returns home Saturday, Oct. 5 against Cleveland State at 7 p.m., which is also Soctoberfest and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Green Bay Athletics. The 1969-1970 men’s soccer team will be honored at halftime of the game.
In celebration of the 50th year of Green Bay Athletics, there will be a 50th Fall Kickoff Barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The men’s soccer team plays Cleveland State at 7 p.m., but prior to the game, there will be a tailgate with live music, food and beer beginning at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30, there will be a brief address from Director of Athletics Charles Guthrie. All former athletes, coaches and staff are invited to attend, including the 1969-1970 inaugural men’s soccer team, who will be recognized during halftime of the game.
