Campus mourns passing of higher education advocate Marvel Elbe

Campus was informed of the passing of Marvel Elbe on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018. She was the widow of Clarence Schaal (d. 1962) and Robert Elbe (d. 2014). She is survived by her children Richard (Dick) Schaal (former director of UW-Green Bay’s Institute for Learning Partnership) and Nancy Vandenput. Both visitation and service were Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. In 2014 the family established the Robert G. and Marvel A. Elbe Endowed Scholarship at UW-Green Bay. The description reads, “Mr. Elbe was a survivor of the Great Depression, warrior and veteran of World War II, and a life-long student of learning. Never having the opportunity for higher education beyond high school, he believed in advancing his own skills through study. Mrs. Elbe was raised on a farm where hard work and life ethics were taught. She was the supervising manager of an outerwear company and taught classes at NWTC. She exemplifies a positive attitude and belief that you can accomplish what you want in life. This scholarship is given on their behalf to provide additional support for a future teacher who has the will and skill.” See the obituary.
