Learn more about upcoming, ‘And So We Walked’ Nov. 14-16
“And So We Walked: An Artist’s Journey Along the Trail of Tears” is a labor of love. DeLanna Studi weaves together the story of the Trail of Tears in 1838-1839, the walk she and her dad did to walk the northern removal route from her family’s pre-removal homestead near present-day Murphy, NC to their home in eastern Oklahoma, and her efforts to convey the emotional impact and historical and contemporary significance of those events. “And So We Walked” runs Nov. 14-16, 2019 at Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center. - Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Additionally, “And So We Walked Together” represents an effort to explore some of the central issues in the play. The sessions below, are free and open to the public.
- Tuesday, November 12, 2019, 1 to 3 p.m., Christie Theater, University Union, UW-Green Bay. “The Purpose of Our Stories” features performer and playwright DeLanna Studi. The session highlights the role of traditional stories, historical accounts, and stories of personal experiences can play in reaching both the head and the heart.
- Tuesday, Nov. 12, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Neville Theatre, Neville Public Museum. The panel discussion, “Indian Removal: Loss of Land, Loss of Lives,” will help to bring the story home, to “Wisconsinize” these experiences and help audiences recognize that every nation in Wisconsin experienced their own removal or lived under the threat of removal.
- Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, 1 to 4:30 p.m., Oneida Nation Community Education Center. Space is limited for the “Historical Research and Writing for the Stage and Screen” workshop. An all-star cast of educators will lead a workshop in which participants will learn how to develop an idea, engage in appropriate and rigorous historical research, and learn how to tell the story through performance.
