Four Phoenix players receive post-season honors
Despite winning the Horizon League regular season title, and remaining in the Top 25 the majority of the season, UW-Green Bay was denied two prestigious specialty awards — player of the year and coach of the year. Wright State’s Chelsea Welch earned the title of player of the year and Austin Parkinson took the Coach of the Year title after leading IUPUI to a second-place finish in the Jags’ first year in the league. Defensive Player of the Year, Green Bay’s Jen Wellnitz, averaged 2.5 steals in league play as part of the top scoring defense in the country (46.1 points per game). Green Bay’s Jessica Lindstrom was a first-team selection and all-defensive and Allie LeClaire was named to the second deam. Green Bay’s Karly Murphy was named to the All-Freshman team along with Williams. League awards are voted on by a 30-member panel that includes head coaches, sports information directors and a media representative from each school. All-Defensive Team and Defensive Player of the Year honors are only voted on by head coaches.
