Freshmen step-up as Phoenix women prepare for final homestead this week, look for 9th straight

Green Bay women’s basketball returns home this week for its final two regular season games at the Kress Events Center. The Phoenix takes on UIC Thursday, Feb. 17, 2021 before a huge matchup with league-leading IUPUI on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2021. 

For the second straight week, and the third time this season, Green Bay freshman guard Bailey Butler has been named the Nike #HLWBB Freshman of the Week. With Maddy Schreiber receiving the award twice ealier this season, the Phoenix has now received the award five times, twice more than any other Horizon League team.

Butler was key to Green Bay winning three games this week, and eight straight overall. The South Wayne, Wis. native started the week with a career-high 14 points and four rebounds in just 23 minutes in a big win over in-state rival Milwaukee. Butler also impressed in wins at Oakland and Detroit Mercy.

Against the Golden Grizzlies, the guard scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists, and had three steals. At Detroit Mercy, Butler scored eight again and pulled down a career-high six rebounds. In the three wins, she averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. Butler was efficient all week, shooting 55.5-percent shooting from the floor and 33.3-percent from three.
