Green Bay takes two against rival UW-Milwaukee
It was a good weekend for Phoenix basketball. Sandy Cohen III scored a season-high 28 points and Green Bay scored 53 points in the second half as the men’s basketball team knocked off in-state rival Milwaukee 92-82 on Saturday (Dec. 29, 2018) night at the UWM Panther Arena. Green Bay (7-7, 1-0 HL) is now 1-0 in Horizon League play for the sixth-straight season and has also beaten Milwaukee (5-9, 0-1 HL) in six of the last seven meetings. Green Bay plays its next two league games at home, welcoming Youngstown State (Jan. 3) and Cleveland State (Jan. 5) to the Resch Center for a Star Wars-themed weekend. The first 750 fans will receive a Star Wars Glow Cup at Thursday’s game, while the first 500 fans can snag a Star Wars Lightsaber at Saturday’s game.
On Friday evening (Dec. 28), the Green Bay women used a defensive lockdown in the fourth quarter, propelling the Phoenix (6-5) to a 76-62 victory in its first Horizon League match-up of the season over UW-Milwaukee (5-7). Green Bay was led by Frankie Wurtz, who scored 18 points. Madison Wolf scored a career-high 16 points. The Phoenix continues Horizon League play on the road this week, traveling to Wright State (Jan. 3) and Northern Kentucky (Jan. 5). The Phoenix has notched victories in 31-consecutive conference openers.
