Proposed tuition increase makes headlines here, statewide

We shared with you yesterday some of the early state news coverage of UW System President Kevin Reilly’s proposal to raise System tuition by 5.5 percent for the 2012-13 academic year. Local media took an interest, too, with WLUK, Fox 11 coming to campus Monday (June 4) to interview Provost Julia Wallace and a student Phoenix Bookstore employee. Both discussed the challenges increased tuition can pose while acknowledging the need for tuition revenue in the face of declining state support. WHBY Radio in Appleton also spoke with Wallace Monday, and the Green Bay Press-Gazette ran a story on Reilly’s proposal — to be considered Thursday (June 7) by the System Board of Regents — on its front page.
