Samuel Langenfeld wins Visual Arts Rising Phoenix | Waushara Argus

Samuel Langenfeld of rural Wild Rose was recently announced as the Rising Phoenix winner in visual arts at UW-Green Bay. Langenfeld’s photo “Fragmented Thoughts” was selected among submissions from around the country to be named the Rising Phoenix in the Spring issue of the Sheepshead Review, UW-Green Bay’s Journal of Art and Literature. Sheepshead Review first went to print in 1975 and it features creative writing and visual art from students at UW-Green Bay and around the country.  Each semester one submission in visual arts, poetry, nonfiction and fiction are chosen by celebrity judges to be highlighted. Samuel’s black and white image features a model projected with shadows and represents the challenges facing college students during a pandemic. He had three other photos featured as well, including the cover.Samuel attended Col-oma Elementary school through 5th grade and then transferred to Wisconsin Connections Academy where he completed high school.  Samuel will graduate from UWGB in the spring of 2022 with a Bachelor’s of Art in Environmental Design and a minor in Environmental Science.
