St. Norbert College, UWGB will allow students to attend both schools

GREEN BAY — St. Norbert College and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay are announcing a partnership that will allow students in some programs to study at both institutions.

“This sharing of resources provides students from the region (and beyond) with an opportunity to take classes more easily at either of the Northeast Wisconsin four-year universities, regardless of campus residence or enrollment,” UWGB’s media release said.

St. Norbert and UWGB are expected to sign an agreement Thursday morning formally establishing what the two schools are calling a “a first-of-its-kind partnership in the region.” Neither institution has named which academic programs will be eligible to take advantage classes at both schools.

This comes after St. Norbert announced 12 new academic programs Monday as the college reorganizes its degrees in the face of financial shortcomings. Some of these new degrees include majors in engineering physics, finance, marketing and supply chain management, to name a few.

In March, St. Norbert laid off 12 faculty members as the institution shores up a $5 million deficit projected for fiscal year 2025. The college announced 41 layoffs last fall. College spokesperson Mike Counter has said that number was actually 35 positions.

UWGB also announced layoffs last fall, cutting nine non-faculty positions. In November, the university said it was considering cutting six majors and minors as it prepares for the future reality of higher education.
