Campus mourns passing of one of its founding faculty members, Elmer Havens
Longtime faculty member Elmer Havens died recently in Green Bay. Professor Emeritus of English and Humanistic Studies since 1995, he was one of the first UWGB faculty members hired in 1967, and was first chair of the University Committee (1967-69). He later served as Chair of Humanistic Studies and was Secretary of the Faculty and Staff from 1979 to 1985. He received the Founders Association Award for Teaching in 1993. A “Launching the Dream” interview with Havens is available on the retirees’ website with his reflections of the start of the University. “What can we do to serve humanity? We can teach what it is to be humane,” he says. An obituary has not been published, to date.
