Article on Transgender Characters in Literature & Legal History

Professor Rebecca Nesvet (English) has an article published in the journal Nineteenth Century Gender Studies’s special issue “Writing Aslant: Voicing across Genders in Nineteenth-Century Literature.” The article is “Walking Aslant: Irene Adler Visits the Inner Temple.” It concerns the implications of Sherlock Holmes character Irene Adler’s transmasculinity during attempts by people identified as women to join the bar (legal profession, not drinking place).
