In the news: Kraft talks guv’s race as new Marquette poll is released
Prof. Emeritus Michael Kraft shared his take Wednesday (June 23) on a new Marquette University Law School Poll that shows Gov. Scott Walker and presumptive challenger Mary Burke in a statistical dead heat ahead of the November election. Kraft told reporter Jenn Sullivan that job creation is the biggest issue for voters, which could be one reason Walker’s approval rating has slipped slightly since the last Marquette poll in May. “If people feel the economy is not improving or the state is not going in the right direction,” Kraft said, “those are typically signs that they might not vote for the incumbent and might look for some change.” Kraft also offered his thoughts on Walker losing some support among independent voters — 45 percent of independents say they support the governor, versus 49 percent in May. “It could be the John Doe investigation, because it got a lot of press attention, it could be his position on same sex marriage, his position on health care,” Kraft said. “For a governor up for re-election, you don’t want your approval rating slipping three months before the election.” Full story.
