Faculty note: Ashmann, Gichobi presentation
Assistant Prof. Mary Gichobi (mathematics education) and Associate Prof. Scott Ashmann (science education) recently presented a paper entitled: Modelling the Standards of Mathematical Practices (SMPs) in the Context of Mathematics Content Courses for Elementary and Middle School Preservice Teachers at the 69th annual conference of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. The study has closely examined the extent to which teacher candidates can learn how to facilitate the eight standards of mathematical practices outlined in the Common Core State Standards. Their goal is to develop preservice teachers’ capacity to be become effective beginning mathematics teachers in elementary and middle school classrooms.
