Smithsonian senior scientist will visit, offer ‘EcoLunch’ talk Friday
Dr. Geoffrey Parker, senior scientist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Md., will be visiting the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity this week, hosted by Profs. Amy Wolf and Robert Howe of the Natural and Applied Sciences academic unit.
Parker is collaborating with UW-Green Bay scientists on a study of forest structure and bird communities. His recent research on climate change and forest growth, published last February in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (sercblog.si.edu/?p=466) has attracted international attention including articles in The New York Times and other major news outlets.
Geoffrey Parker will describe some of his recent work in a presentation at 11:40 a.m. this Friday (Sept. 17) in the Biodiversity Center conference room, MAC 212. The presentation is part of the weekly Seminar in Ecology and Evolution (“Ecolunch”), and all interested students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to attend. Parker will describe his recent and pioneering work involving LiDAR technology (Light Detection and Radar) in ecological studies.
