Phoenix Hall of Fame inducts late coach Butch Reimer
The late Everett “Butch” Reimer was posthumously inducted into the Phoenix Hall of Fame on Friday night in a ceremony held at The Marq. Reimer was inducted as the lone member of the Class of 2011 and the 71st Hall of Famer in the 18 years. Reimer passed away on Oct. 19, 2010 after a battle with acute myogenic leukemia. Reimer most recently worked as the head Nordic ski coach from 2006 until the time of his passing. He also coached the Nordic ski program from 1988-98 and served as the head softball coach from 1996-2002. In his years leading the ski program, 33 men and women qualified for the NCAA Championships and his teams won two regional championships and two conference titles. Three of Reimer’s former student-athletes — Nordic skier Dr. Philip Gallagher, softball player Debbie Kind Urben and current Nordic skier Carolyn Freemann — reflected on how Reimer impacted their lives.
