Visiting activist Slusna to speak, receive key to the city Wednesday on campus
A visiting Slovak activist will receive the key to the City of Green Bay Wednesday (March 6) during her third trip to campus. Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt will present Lubomira Slusna with the honor during a public reception that follows her address on the struggle for equality of Slovakia’s Roma people. The talk, which is free and open to the public, runs from 4-4:45 p.m. in the Christie Theatre of the University Union; the reception will follow from 4:45 to about 5:45 p.m. in the 1965 Room, with the mayoral presentation taking place around 5 or 5:15. Slusna has ties to UWGB, students, Meredith Livingston, Bauer — The events this week featuring Lubomira Slusna mark her third visit to UW-Green Bay, where she also visited in 2003 and 2007. Slusna has worked with Profs. Sarah Meredith Livingston and Angela Bauer to organize two student travel courses to Slovakia, working with Roma communities there.
