Gerds previews Jazz Fest, offers history of 44th annual event

Wearegreenbay.com Critic-at-Large Warren Gerds on Wednesday (Jan. 29) posted an extensive story on UW-Green Bay’s Jazz Fest, ahead of the festival’s 44th annual iteration Saturday (Feb. 1). From the early days of the event to big names that have played and what’s unique about the UW-Green Bay festival, Gerds’ story covers a lot of interesting ground. He spoke with Associate Prof. John Salerno, only the second director in the festival’s four-plus decade history. “This is a special group,” Salerno said about this year’s guest artists, the Kenny Werner Trio. “In my humble opinion, it is among the best jazz trios in the world. I think a person who isn’t necessarily a jazz person would appreciate the level of musicianship and empathy these guys have with one another. It’s truly great.” To hear more from Salerno, check out Gerds’ story, along with our UW-Green Bay News video and press release:
