UW-Green Bay is major sponsor for MLK event, set for Saturday
As we have for years, UW-Green Bay is set to play a fundamental role in Saturday’s (Jan. 19) Brown County Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration at NWTC. The University is a major sponsor for this awesome annual event, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Student Center at NWTC. Chancellor Tom Harden will offer remarks during the celebration, and present prizes for grades K-3 in the annual MLK poster and essay contest. Prof. Jim Coates will give his stirring rendition of Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which is a not-to-be-missed highlight. Also on tap are entertainment and poignant reflections — not to mention a delicious luncheon at program’s end. The event is free and open to the public. Several UW-Green Bay faculty and staff members serve on the MLK event planning committee, including faculty members Jolanda Sallmann and Francis Akakpo (Social Work); Gaurav Bansal and Mussie Teclezion (Business Administration); Prof. Emeritus Judy Martin (Social Work); and staff members Juliet Cole (Institute for Learning Partnership) and committee co-chair Kelly McBride (University Communication). UW-Green Bay faculty, staff and students helped judge the poster and essay contest entries with colleagues from NWTC and St. Norbert.
