Biodiversity blog: Colorful birds, Point au Sable banding
Vicki Medland, associate director of the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity, provides some great info on — and pictures of — bird banding at Point au Sable in a new blog post on the center’s website. The piece describes the efforts of grad student Stephanie Beilke, who is banding to learn more about how migratory birds are affected by the type of stopover habitats (essentially safe, natural and food-rich rest stops) they choose. As Medland explains, these types of habitats are becoming scarcer due to human activities and the fragmentation of landscapes. Check out the new post for more details on the project.
