UW-Green Bay pre-service students find literacy partners in Howard-Suamico School District
UW-Green Bay pre-service teachers have benefited from the opportunity to practice and apply their literacy teaching and learning in a closely-monitored field experience with the Howard-Suamico School District (HSSD).
UW-Green Bay student Anthoni Ahnen graduated from Bay Port and is currently working alongside her third/fourth grade teacher at Howard Elementary. Dan Naef, an Air Force veteran (pictured above), is looking forward to his second career, preparing at Forest Glen Elementary for a future career as a kindergarten teacher.
“The HSSD teachers have been incredibly accommodating and have demonstrated and modeled best literacy practices that UW-Green Bay students are watching and trying on their own,” said Jamie Froh Tyrrell, the advisor and student teaching coordinator for UW-Green Bay’s Professional Program in Education. “We couldn’t be more pleased with how this semester has gone!”
All 41 UWGB Education students in “literacy block” were placed with a HSSD teacher in literacy. The collaborative effort hopes to continue in future semesters.
