A tribute to a top-notch Phoenix fan, by any measure

A special Phoenix fan passed away last this week. In an arena full of passionate women’s basketball fans, Jack Hasenfus, had to be one of the most dedicated. His unexpected passing last week caught many by surprise, including the Mollys (Vandervest and Christel), from Green Bay athletics, who knew him personally. Christel, assistant director of ticket sales, had the most contact since Hasenfus made a habit out of guessing attendance at home games and then reporting on his accuracy. “I knew Jack was an incredible supporter and fan when I would get a three- to four-page detailed attendance report midweek,” Christel said. “Calculating where Green Bay women’s basketball ranked nationally as far as percentage of arena filled and particularly proud when we cracked the top 12 percent in the nation in January.” The Green Bay Press-Gazette’s Scott Venci, wrote a fitting tribute this week.
