Faculty/staff note: UW-Marinette’s Welch receives Kaplan Award
UW-Marinette has named Bethany Welch a 2017-18 Kaplan Award recipient. The award recognizes individuals for significant innovative improvements in instruction and/or service to students. Welch is an associate lecturer of Spanish and instructor in the Intensive English Program for international students. She is a UW-Marinette alumna and joined the faculty in 2008. As a Kaplan Award recipient, Welch receives a $250 grant from the university, matched by the UW-Marinette Foundation. The award honors Arthur M. Kaplan, who retired in 1993 as vice chancellor of the UW Colleges. Welch received the award for her commitment to students, both international and domestic, and for her research-based innovations in teaching English and Spanish. As part of the Intensive English Program, she developed a one-room, one-level, all-disciplines approach to curriculum to develop the full range of skills international students need to succeed in academic classes.
