Cofrin School of Business to host regional information systems conference
The Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will host the seventh annual Midwest Association for Information Systems (MWAIS) Conference Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center, 2040 Airport Drive, Green Bay.
The two-day event will focus on information privacy, security, sustainability (Green IT), and innovation and collaboration issues within information systems. It will feature a wide variety of speakers from academia, industry and government, including from federal agencies such as the FBI. In addition to showcasing high-profile keynote speakers, MWAIS 2012 will offer presentations, workshops, panel discussions and doctoral and undergraduate student sessions.
UW-Green Bay Assistant Prof. Gaurav Bansal, Business Administration, is serving as chair of the conference committee. Prof. Mariam Zahedi of UW-Milwaukee is serving as co-chair. Program chair is Associate Prof. Alan Brandyberry of Kent State University (Ohio) and Associate Prof. Sung Kim of UW-Madison is serving as program co-chair.
“Since information technology impacts, and is impacted by, many aspects of common life, it is difficult — if not impossible — to arrive at any holistic view without involving multiple perspectives,” Bansal said. “Therefore, this conference will bring together representatives from academia, industry and government agencies to get an enhanced insight into these critical issues, and how academic research can better serve the requirements of both industry and government related to information systems in general and the conference theme topic in particular.”
MWAIS is a regional chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the premier global organization for academics specializing in information systems. AIS has some 4,000 members in 90 countries and is a key player in advancing the information systems academic community.
Highlights of the 2012 conference will include academic keynote speakers Dov Te’eni of Tel Aviv University, current AIS president; and Alan Hevner, Citigroup/Hidden River Chair of Distributed Technology at the University of South Florida. Key local industry speakers and panelists include Judy Lemke, Chief Information Officer at Schneider National; Kartik Ravel, Principal Consultant (Green IT) at Fujitsu Consulting; David Richter, Vice President (Information Technology Services) at Kimberly-Clark Corporation; and Mukul Sharma, Global Head of Program Management at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Also featured will be Dnyanesh Patkar, Vice President (IT) at Schneider National; Joe Smits, Chief Information Security Officer at Associated Bank; Todd Thiel, Director of Technical Services at Schreiber Foods; and Anu Varma, Director of IT at Menasha Packaging.
The conference committee has issued a call for full-length papers, research-in-progress submissions and panel, workshop and tutorial participation for MWAIS 2012. The submission deadline for all proposals is Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, and the committee is soliciting participation from universities and the business community across the Midwest and beyond.
