Faculty note: Associate Prof. Vallari Chandna and Lecturer Praneet Tiwari’s article on cybersecurity accepted in high-ranking journal
Associate Prof. Vallari Chandna (Marketing and Management) and Lecturer Praneet Tiwari (Business Administration) have an article in-press at top strategy journal, Journal of Business Strategy, titled “Cybersecurity and the new firm: Exploring how entrepreneurial ventures and small firms can survive online threats”(publisher: Emerald Publishing). While cybersecurity is an issue that all firms have to contend with, it is especially challenging for new entrepreneurial ventures who lack the resources and capabilities of established firms. The liabilities of newness and smallness make entrepreneurial ventures a unique context in which to study the significance of cybersecurity and data privacy risk management. In this paper, the authors offer an overview of issues of cybersecurity that are of particular significance to entrepreneurial ventures. They also develop a framework illustrating adoption of different risk management practices by entrepreneurial ventures based on their specific needs and context. Practical solutions for start-ups and nascent firms regarding cybersecurity and privacy management are offered.
