Oil filter ban — with boost from UW-Green Bay research — goes to governor
The Wisconsin Senate has approved legislation that would prohibit the disposal of used oil filters in landfills. The state recycling law already forbids the disposal of steel, paper and oil from landfills, but has never directly addressed used oil filters, which are made of steel and paper and contain oil. It’s an example of practical environmental legislation that was supported through data that was collected and analyzed by UW-Green Bay Prof. John Katers, Natural and Applied Sciences, and some of his students. The bill, which has already been cleared by the Assembly, awaits review by Governor Jim Doyle. We’ll let you know if and when it receives the governor’s signature.
