Woodwind groups perform May 3 at Weidner Center

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay music program will present performances by a trio of woodwind ensembles at 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 3, in Fort Howard Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

It’s a program that will showcase a variety of musical compositions – from classical to spiritual to the rousing music of Broadway. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will begin with the Flute Ensemble performing a selection from Concerto No. 1 by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier. Other selections for the Flute Ensemble include “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need” by Isaac Watts, “Tournament Galop” by Louis Moreau Gottschalk, “Winter’s Journey” by Lewis Kocher, and “Dance Suite” by John Harmon.

Adjunct Instructor Nancy Collins will direct the Flute Ensemble, whose members include Alysha Brooks, Tara Groth, Krista Jaeger, Deanna Sieg and Zachery Yost.

Associate Prof. John Salerno will direct the Saxophone Quartet, whose members include: Michael Lund Ziegler, Cole Watkins, Brian Kopfhammer and Nick Capps.

Among the selections to be performed by the Saxophone Quartet will be a pair of compositions, “Starry Night” and “Persistence of Memory” by Ryan Frane, “Psalm” by Stefan Hall, “Trois Pieces” by Albeniz, and “Gaguenardise” by Jean Francaix.

The concert will conclude with the Clarinet Ensemble performing a medley of songs by Tin Pan Alley composer George M. Cohan. Other selections to be performed by clarinetists include: “French Suite” by Yvonne Desportes, “Two Tone Poems” by Edward MacDowell, “Hide and Seek” by Imogene Heap, and “Fugue in G Minor” by J.S. Bach.

Assistant Prof. Eric Hansen will direct the Clarinet Ensemble. Members of the Clarinet Ensemble include: Elizabeth Gelhar, Eileen Lacenski, Tyler Rindo, Molly Siefert and Zachery Yost.

This is the 31st concert of the 2009-2010 season.
