Gypsy Trip performs debut ‘Alt-Nostalgia’ in final 6:30 Thursdays concert of semester
GREEN BAY – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay music program presents its final 6:30 Thursdays concert on April 21, with the program “Alt-Nostalgia” featuring the work of regional band Gypsy Trip.
The setting for the lecture and performance will be at Fort Howard Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the UW-Green Bay campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. Gypsy Trip will perform its debut recording, Alt-Nostalgia.
Gypsy Trip — a band featuring mostly UWGB faculty members — has been performing together since April 2007. The group originally started as a duo with Stefan Hall and Nick Winkler, but then progressed into a trio adding bassist Fletcher Gazella in 2008. A year later, Adam Gaines and Eric Hansen joined Gypsy Trip. Now Gypsy Trip is a sextet, including core members Michael Dewhirst on bass, Michelle McQuade Dewhirst on voice and horn, Gaines on trumpet, Lada Gaines on accordion, Hall on guitar, and Adam LeGrave on percussion. Emeritus Members include Eric Hansen on clarinet, Ben Hogan on percussion, Mike Fowler on guitar, Nick Winkler on guitar, and Fletcher Gazella on bass. Gypsy Trip takes inspiration from the “hot club” jazz of Django Reinhardt and infuses it with a modern sensibility. They have one recorded album, Alt-Nostalgia, which was released in September 2015.
The 6:30 Thursdays concert series is designed to provide an innovative musical experience to connect the campus and community through music in meaningful ways.
The 2015-16 series features a wide array of musical styles and guest artists, including jazz, classical, contemporary, and third stream music events. All 6:30 Thursdays are free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.
