David Jowett

Former UW-Green Bay faculty member and acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (1987) David Jowett, passed away on April 15, 2018 at his home. He joined the UW-Green Bay faculty in 1970, teaching in the College of Environmental Science. Jowett was a faculty member in both Natural and Applied Sciences (NAS) and Business Administration.

He taught in the areas of ecosystem analysis, science, computing science and mathematics. His positions during his tenure at UW-Green Bay included acting director of graduate studies and assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs. He held governance roles as chairman of the University Committee and Speaker of the Faculty Senate. In these leadership roles he was noted for being an outspoken advocate of the faculty on the issue of salaries. He retired in May of 1999.

Jowett received the 1984 UWGB Founder’s Association Award for Excellence in Institutional Development. He was recognized for overseeing the establishment and growth of the UWGB Computer Center as well as creating the initial curriculum for the Computer Science major. He also contributed to computer planning on the UW System level.

He was also a member of the Founders Association Board of Directors from 1978 to 1986. He and his wife were generous donors of numerous scholarships through the years. Read the full obituary.
