Campus golfers plan inaugural ‘UWGB Convocation Open’

They’re billing it as the inaugural “UWGB Convocation Open” to be held the day after convocation on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 29, at our very own Shorewood Golf Course, and it sounds like fun.

The format for this social outing will be a three-person scramble, so golfers of all abilities are encouraged to participate and meet others from UW-Green Bay in a less formal setting. The event is open to faculty, staff and retirees, with the three-person teams selected by the Planning Committee that consists of Kelly Franz, John Katers and Joe Schoenebeck. Tee times start at 1 p.m., so if you can afford the time to punch out for the afternoon and also the very reasonable $10 greens fee ($15 if you take a cart), they’d love to hear from you. Please contact Joe Schoenebeck by noon Aug. 24, the preceding Friday, to reserve your spot, as this event will be limited to the first 36  participants. Non-golfers? Any and all are welcome to stop by Shorewood for refreshments and casual conversation later that afternoon.

And… finally… while there’s no celebrity pro-am, there is this: “Much like the Masters in Augusta, Chancellor Harden is scheduled to hit the ceremonial first ball to inaugurate the tournament, so you don’t want to miss that!”
