Local singer among five headed to Montreal for vocal finals

Green Bay soprano Emily Brand is among five singers who performed at this week’s Czech/Slovak International Voice Competition, held at UW-Green Bay, who have been selected to go to Montreal to compete in the finals on Saturday (Nov. 28).

The overall winner will receive $5,000 (Canadian) and an opportunity to travel to Slovakia and the Czech Republic to participate in master classes and present recitals.

Headed to Montreal are:
Emily Brand, soprano, Green Bay, Wisconsin
Pavol Kuban, baritone, Bratislava, Slovakia
Kristin Schwecke, soprano, Madison, Wisconsin
Melody Wilson, mezzo-soprano, Newark, New Jersey
Rebecca Sjowall, soprano, Los Angeles, California

Created in 1991 and held every other year, the objective of this event is to promote the Czech and Slovak vocal repertoire for young singers.
