GREEN BAY – University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Music and the Polish-American Club of Green Bay present “Maria Murawska, piano,” on Monday, Oct. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in Fort Howard Hall, Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Murawska is a professor at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Professor Murawska will be performing an all-Chopin recital. Free and open to the public.

Murawska studied piano at the State Higher School of Music in Poznań, and later at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. She perfected her piano skills abroad, in Weimar, and at the Russian Academy of Music in Moscow. Works by such Polish composers as Fryderyk Chopin, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Grażyna Bacewicz and Karol Szymanowski are a significant part of her repertoire and she has recorded Chopin and Paderewski for Polish Radio. Murawska has given concerts as a soloist and chamber musician in Poland and abroad (Russia, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Serbia, Spain, Ukraine, France, Austria, China and the United States) and has been invited to conduct masterclasses in Poland, Italy, Spain and China. She has been a jury member for a number of Polish and foreign competitions for young pianists and since 1982 she has been working at the Bydgoszcz Academy of Music, where she is presently a full professor.

UW-Green Bay Music Professor Sarah Meredith met Murawska in 2005 at the International Roundtable held by the Del Bianco Foundation, Florence, Italy. UW-Green Bay has had a long-time relationship with this non-profit organization that was established in 2002. Prof Meredith will be traveling to the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and will be conducting masterclasses and lectures, spring, 2019, as part of her sabbatical project. The two institutions look forward to possible faculty/student exchanges.
