UW-Green Bay Middle School Music Camp registration remains open
Students entering grades 6 through 9 in fall 2012 still can enroll for Middle School Band, Orchestra and Choral Camp July 15-20 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
Several camp options are tailored to middle school students. Band students entering grades 6 and 7 will participate in “X-Band,” the camp’s beginner band that will focus on fundamentals for the young musician. Students will not need to audition for this band and will be taught by a team of teachers who specialize in working with young musicians.
Band students entering grades 7 through 9, as well as all choral and orchestral students, will audition for placement in their performing groups.
Camp teachers will include music faculty members from UW-Green Bay and other colleges and universities, along with outstanding Wisconsin music teachers. See the camp web site for faculty/staff updates: www.uwgbsummercamps.com.
Students’ days will be filled with rehearsals, a masterclass, sectionals and two “option” hours. An array of class choices are offered, including the following: Camp Chorus, Music Tools, The Total Flutist, World Beat percussion, Saxophone Studio, Musical Theatre, Recording Techniques, Heavy Metal (Brass Choir), Northwinds (clarinet/double reed ensemble), Jazz Improvisation, Pop Strings and Fiddling and Composition.
The camp week gets under way on Sunday, July 15 with auditions for orchestra and choral students and for band students entering grades 7 through 9. The camp ends with a 6 p.m. concert Friday, July 20, in the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on campus. Outstanding students will be chosen to receive partial scholarships to the 2013 camp.
Students can attend as commuters or as residents living in UW-Green Bay student housing.
The camp fee is $259 for commuters. Resident students will pay a new, lower fee, $495, which includes instruction, room and board, counselor supervision, a t-shirt and transportation to evening activities.
Camp information and registration are available online at www.uwgbsummercamps.com. Information also is available by telephone at (920) 465-2775 or (800) 621-2313.
