Social Justice in Northeast Wisconsin is the focus of UW-Green Bay Summit

The second annual Social Justice Summit will be held on June 5, 2024

Green Bay, WI — The University of Wisconsin – Green Bay campus will host the second annual Social Justice Summiton June 5, 2024, and will take “A Look into Social Dominance and Resistance.” The in-person event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. in Phoenix Rooms A and B in the University Union.

The keynote speaker is Mohammed I.T. Bey, Vice President Institutional Inclusion, Carroll University, where he oversees efforts related to equity and social justice. Bey will address, “The House That We Built,” which will provide the foundation for entering more deeply into the concepts of social dominance and social resistance.

“The UW-Green Bay Social Work Department’s vision is to be leaders in promoting social justice advocacy and equity for people across all identities,” said UW-Green Bay Social Work Department Chair Joan Groessl. “Through our field programs, we have community partners across the region and welcome them in helping us to fulfill our vision. This is our second year doing a social justice summit geared toward further developing inclusivity in our communities with attendance growing each year.”

The mission of UW-Green Bay’s professional programs in social work is to promote social justice in a diverse and evolving world by engaging in practices that elevate human and community well-being. The event agenda also includes interactive breakout sessions, in which attendees will explore how to apply concepts learned to a more aware practice:
