UW-Green Bay Chancellor search enters next phase as application window closes
The search for the sixth chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has entered its next phase with the close of the application period and the continuation of file reviews by the 23-member Chancellor Search and Screen Committee.
Candidates had until Friday, March 28 to submit their applications for full consideration. Preliminary candidate interviews will take place in April, with on-campus interviews of the publicly announced five finalists taking place in early-to mid-May. As part of the interview process, each finalist will hold an on-campus public forum, which campus and community members alike will be encouraged to attend. All individuals will have the opportunity to give confidential feedback on each finalist.
Since its inception in January, the Chancellor Search and Screen committee has held five listening sessions on and off campus and developed the institutional profile that is an integral part of the search process, along with tools for evaluating candidates and questions for the various levels of candidate interviews. The Chancellor Search website, www.uwgb.edu/chancellor/search/ was developed and has been continually updated, most recently to include a video that showcases campus and community.
Working with executive search firm Storbeck Pimentel & Associates, the Search and Screen Committee is tasked with recommending five finalists for the position of chancellor. The selected individual will succeed UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden, who announced in December he would be stepping back from his current role sometime in August. Harden, who has been chancellor since 2009, turned 65 in March and wants to spend more time with his family, including his 11 grandchildren. Harden and his wife Cathy plan to remain in the Green Bay area and stay active in the University, with Harden planning a return to teaching down the road.
In mid-April, the search committee is expected to recommend a list of semi-finalists to the UW System President and a special Board of Regents committee, chaired by Regent Tim Higgins of Appleton. Other members of the committee include Regent Mark Bradley of Wausau, Regent Janice Mueller of Madison, and Regent Chuck Pruitt of Milwaukee. A list of finalists will be identified in early May. After a series of public presentations and personal interviews, the UW System president and the Regent committee will recommend one individual to the full board, which must approve the appointment. That is expected to happen at the board’s June meeting.
UW-Green Bay Prof. Cheryl Grosso is chair of the Search and Screen Committee, which consists of 12 UW-Green Bay faculty members, two academic staff members, two classified staff members and two students.
