UW-Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay High School choirs to join forces for inaugural ChorFest
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will host its inaugural ChorFest, featuring the UW-Green Bay Chorale and Concert Choir, along with a guest choir from Sturgeon Bay High School, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 in the Cofrin Family Hall at the Weidner.
The show will kick off with a performance from the UW-Green Bay Concert Choir, conducted by Assistant Prof. Randall Meder, with Ellen Hanchek accompanying on piano. Its selections include “Der Tanz” and “Die Geselligkeit (Lebenslust)” by composer Franz Schubert, along with “For the Beauty of the Earth,” by John Rutter.
The Sturgeon Bay High School Concert Choir will take the stage next, performing works that may include “O Magnum Mysterium,” by Tomás Luis de Victoria, “The Vacant Chair,” by George F. Root and “In Remembrance” (from Requiem), by Eleanor Daley. Meder will conduct an afternoon clinic with the high school students, who will perform during the concert and join the UW-Green Bay choirs for their final work on the program. David Robertson will conduct the Sturgeon Bay choir, with Robert Nickel accompanying on piano.
The UW-Green Bay Chorale will take the stage next, conducted by Meder and featuring Assistant Prof. David Severtson on piano. The Chorale will perform such pieces as “He watching over Israel” (from Elijah) by Felix Mendelssohn and “Místo Klekání Op. 29 No. 1“ and “Ukolébavka Op. 29 No. 2“ by Antonín Dvořák. The combined choirs, along with trumpets, organ and timpani, will conclude with “Dona nobis pacem” (from Mass in B-Minor) by Johann Sebastian Bach.
