Report: Walker won’t lessen UW System lapse

The political news site WisPolitics.com is reporting today (Friday, Dec. 23) that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker tells them the funds he’s already shielded from required lapses will likely be the only ones he spares from the cuts and that others, like the UW System, have tools they can use to offset the cuts.  System President Kevin Reilly told UW regents recently discussions were underway with DOA about possibly reducing the university’s share of the lapses. But the website quotes Walker:  “While I value the university system … I also know the budget that was passed gave them tremendous flexibilities… What we tried to do was just find areas where there were high priorities and where there really weren’t a lot of options.” Click here.
