Faculty members Janet Reilly and Christine Vandenhouten are assistant professors in the Professional Program in Nursing at UW-Green Bay. They are also collaborators on a statewide initiative known as LEAP- Linking Education and Practice for Excellence in Public Health Nursing. Reilly and Vandenhouten were among the co-authors of an article, “Collaborative design and use of an agency feedback for student clinical practicum experience in community/public health nursing,” published in the influential journal Public Health Nursing. Their work dealt with the challenges of student evaluation in community/public health experiences. The form they suggested was implemented in four baccalaureate nursing programs across the state, with the purposes of providing a consistent and easy form for preceptor use, assist with student evaluative processes, and to increase knowledge of population-based nursing interventions. Additionally, Reilly was a co-author of the article, “A public health nursing shortage,” published in the American Journal of Nursing, which documents possible barriers and solutions in regard to the fact very few diploma and associate degree nurses go on to earn an additional degree.
